Starting at approximately 12:30 PM (local time), the disruption affected critical infrastructure such as public transportation, traffic control systems, telecommunications, and payment networks.
Authorities have described this incident as “absolutely exceptional,” with preliminary investigations indicating a malfunction within the European high-voltage electricity grid as a likely cause.
Investigations are ongoing, and while a cyberattack has not been confirmed, it has also not been entirely ruled out.
